Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This 8-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to adolescents (ages 12-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. Participants receive a certificate of completion after training.

Adam Billingslea is the program director for mental health awareness at HealthAlliance. HealthAlliance is partnering with communities and organizations to provide Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings across Delaware and Ulster Counties. After almost a decade working with youth populations throughout the northeast as a behavioral therapist and youth program supervisor, Adam knows firsthand the role mental health plays in adolescent development. The importance of having informed, empathetic adults interacting with young people can dramatically improve early intervention efforts and ensure youth get the proper help when they need it. Adam holds a BA in psychology from Florida Atlantic University, and is a certified Youth Mental Health First Aid instructor.
